These five fine brighton and hove establishments represent what is truly Great about Britain. Wisdom, kindness, industry and resourcefulness. Also dog friendliness.
From the belt-n-braces Dockerills to the more hipsterish Utility, one could argue all of mankindâs needs are met, so long as mankindâs needs can be defined somewhere between candles and compost.
5. Tinkers Hardware
You will find Tinkers next door to Red Snapper (dogs allowed at the outside tables) across the road from the dog friendly barbers Teddy Edwards and down the street from dog friendly French Horn, so you can get your compost, Thai dinner, pint and haircut on one convenient trip out with your dog.
100 Dyke Road, Brighton
4. Utility Brighton
The decidedly non-scruffy standout in this list, Utility Brighton. Slap bang in the middle of the busy North Laine, youâll find your tasteful homewares here. From ÂŁ100 Dutch ovens to ÂŁ1 wooden spoons, you will not leave empty-handed. Check out their army blanket for your pup this winter!
28A North Road, Brighton
3. The Wood Store
Less a hardware store than a timber recycling charity, you will find any amount of wood, shelves, ironmongery and logs. A wonderful benefit to the local community, they provide training and volunteer work to the disadvantaged, vulnerable and unemployed.
Edward Street, Brighton
2. Hoyes of Hove
Cousin to Tinkers hardware, also a small, scruffy community stalwart. Donât be surprised when youâre offered a welcoming dog biscuit when you come in for your sundry house and garden needs (check out the tucked away garden centre around the back!)
97 Western Road, Hove
1. Dockerills Hardware Store
One sniff of this shop tells you itâs the real deal – these folk have been trading in brighton since 1915 and it shows. No washer too small no ladder too big, you will not find a chirpier or more helpful set of staff in town, and one of their friendly in-house dogs – Mildred, Olive or Beau might just be downstairs to meet you!
Church Street, Brighton
This concludes our Brighton & Hove independent hardware shop round up. You can see the complete listings of dog-friendly shops here or let us know if we’ve missed your favourite!
